Quantum theory provides a paradigm shifting approach to information processing with the potential to tackle classically intractable computations, realize ultra-secure communication, and develop new classes of precision sensors. The practical implementation of such technologies involves not only the generation and stabilization of quantum mechanical phenomena such as entanglement, but also advanced, high-speed classical computation and control devices to efficiently manipulate and measure quantum hardware. An overview of the current state-of-the-art in nascent quantum processors as well key challenges for future implementation will be presented.
